From Derrynane Pier follow the walking route along rock- steps and through native woodland to Bealtra Pier which is known as the ‘Mass Path’. Take the minor public road to your right, follow the roadway gradually uphill, past farmhouses and grazing fields. Do not forget to look back to see the magnificent vista of Derrynane Bay. Approx. 1.5km you will arrive at a Kerry Way sign pointing left, this will link with the Kerry Way walking route to Waterville and right for your walk along the trail the Kerry Way to Derrynane. Close by as you walk, you will pass ruins of pre-famine homesteads. Continue to follow the arrows taking you in a south easterly direction along this ancient road until you begin your descent to the Derrynane Road through native woodland. Turn right here going downhill to arrive at Derrynane House through the whitewashed facade of the bell gate or keep right for Derrynane Pier again. If you take the left on the Derrynane Road follow the Kerry Way sign through narrow paths and woodland back to the village of Caherdaniel ….. A wonderful day out.
