Derrynane House & Gardens

Derrynane House was the home of Daniel O’Connell who was a heroic figure in Ireland’s fight for independence. The house has been lovingly cared for and restored and is home to a museum and heritage centre. The gardens offer fabulous walks and have an incredible array of exotic trees and flowers and many subtropical plants. There is an audio visual presentation and guided tours are available on request. From Wave Crest take a left to Caherdaniel Village (1 mile, 1.5km, a 20 minute walk). Take the left fork at the village crossroads and 1.5km down this road will bring you to the entrance of Derrynane National Park and the ancestral home of Daniel O’Connell, the Irish Liberator. On your left on the way down this road you will see the Derrynane Ogham Stone which was moved to its current position by the OPW in the 1940’s. It has an inscription that is difficult to decipher due to erosion. The stone was originally found part buried in the sands nearer the sea.
